Frequently Asked Questions

Every question from across the realm, gathered in one tome.

The Basics

Not at all! New players are always welcome. I'm happy to teach rules as we play, help with character creation, and explain mechanics as they come up. All of my campaigns are built to be enjoyable for newcomers and veterans alike, and experienced players will still find plenty of depth, challenge, and nuance.

All campaigns use the Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition 2014 ruleset, with access to all published Wizards of the Coast 2014 content.

No. Each campaign is built for D&D 5E (2014) and keeps that ruleset for its full duration.

Adaptive, character-driven gameplay with a relaxed style: say "yes" whenever possible, reward creativity, let player choices shape the world, and balance challenge with fairness. Expect dramatic moments, clever solutions, emotional beats, and the occasional perfectly timed disaster.

Before your first session we meet privately: we get to know each other, build out your character together on the virtual tabletop, run a full VTT demo, and do a tech check so session one feels like home.

Yes, completely free. We meet the party, set expectations, discuss boundaries, finish characters, and make sure everyone is on the same page before any payment.

Tech & Platform

Most campaigns run on Fantasy Grounds Unity, a professional virtual tabletop with deep D&D 5E automation. Some tables run on Foundry VTT, a modern virtual tabletop that plays right in the browser; your game listing says which platform it uses.

Either way, you never purchase the VTT or any content: everything is included. The Player Guide has setup details for both platforms.

  • A computer (Windows, Mac, or Linux)
  • A stable internet connection
  • A headset and microphone (voice is required)
  • A Discord account

Webcams are optional and welcome.

No. All rulebooks, maps, tokens, and character sheets live inside the game world. You never need to purchase anything beyond your seat.

All times are Eastern (ET). The office hours on the contact section of the home page convert automatically to your local timezone.

Creating Characters

Any published WotC 5E 2014 content from the approved sources list. Create a character motivated to cooperate with the party; no Evil alignment, no PvP or griefing. Standard point buy and milestone leveling. Full guidelines live in the Player Resources.

No third-party character creation content; all classes, subclasses, and core features come from official 5E (2014) sources. Flavor-only changes are welcome, background customization is encouraged, and minor adjustments are considered case-by-case.

As all campaigns are set in a high fantasy setting, no firearms, guns, or similar.

Check the Available Sources list. On the list? Good to go. Variant Human (PHB)? Yes. Echo Knight (EGtW)? Yes. Hexblood (VRGtR)? Go for it. Unsure? Just ask.

Collaboratively! Backstories are 250 words minimum, and even a paragraph beyond that helps. The more you give, the more gets woven into the campaign. The Backstory Builder assembles yours for you.

However works best for you: built in the VTT, D&D Beyond, a fillable PDF, handwritten, Word doc, spreadsheet, anything.

Statistically speaking, yes.

Scheduling & Payment

Games run weekly, on the same day and time, scheduled through StartPlaying. Reschedules are communicated early via Discord and StartPlaying.

4 hours, with short breaks as needed and clean stopping points.

Life happens; give notice when you can. The game usually continues and your character is handled in a low-impact way. StartPlaying also has a guide on how to skip a session.

Securely through StartPlaying; pricing is listed clearly on each game's page with no surprise fees. Session Zero is free.

Absolutely. Mid-campaign characters start at the party's level with class-appropriate equipment and extra gear added by the DM so you fit right in.

Tables seat up to six adventurers.

Watch the game on StartPlaying for openings, or message me on Discord and I will let you know when a seat (or a new table) opens.

At the Table

Completely. There is no minimum roleplay requirement; you can speak in first or third person, be as theatrical or as quiet as you like, and the table will meet you where you are. New player friendliness is the thing players praise most in reviews.

The full details are in the Player Safety section of the Player Guide.

The Code of Conduct covers it: respect, collaboration, showing up on time when you can, and helping make the table fun for everyone.

Of course. Several players adventure at more than one of my tables.
